On May 5 the US Senate passed by voice vote S 3111 which creates a 16-member commission to recommend how to stop a recent trend toward lengthy Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) delays. The purpose of the commission is to recommend to the Congress and the president steps to help eliminate FOIA backlogs. The commission has one year to make its recommendations,

The companion bill in the House of Representatives, H.R. 5087 has had no action since it was introduced on April 20th.
