PERSI To Be Marketed by Brightsolid

Posted by: Jan Meisels Allen

PERSI, the PERiodical Source Index, is a creation of the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center  (ACPL) in Fort Wayne, Indiana (USA) but is available on line to use by millions.  It's an index for genealogy publications.  The ACPL Genealogy Center is a unique and very well respected genealogical center [ http://www.genealogycenter.org/Home.aspx ].  PERsi has had an  interesting life--first it was in hard books, then Ancestry.com paid the ACPL to market it to the Ancestry customers. Then ACPL contracted with HeritageQuest to market it and now the Library has contracted with Brightsolid, an online publishing firm in the United Kingdom. ( the parent of FindMyPast). Brightsolid hopes to do something no previous firm has been able to do: Link the index to the full text of the article.  Because of copyright laws, providing the article would require getting permission from every publisher, difficult at best.

Thank you to Pat Richley-Erickson otherwise known as "DearMYRTLE your friend in genealogy" blog for alerting about the change in PERSI
