Yizkor Book Project, August 2014

Shalom,

Well here we are again after another month of boisterous activity in the Yizkor Book Project and here I am letting you know a little of what transpired during August 2014.

Before continuing, I would like to correct an important fact from my last report. In my excitement in reporting the completion of a number of projects, I incorrectly announced two finalized projects. All the words were there - they just weren't in the right place and my apologies to the people involved. So the two books that I am referring to and their correct coordinators were:

- Serock, Poland (The book of Serock) - coordinated by Howard  Orenstein and Israel H. Mida
- Sierpc, Poland (The Community of Sierpc; Memorial Book) -  coordinated by Sandra Krisch and  Dorothy Lipsky

This past month, quite a few new books were added and a large number of updates were made to our existing, rapidly growing projects. In particular, I would like to point out that quite a few necrologies and indexes were recently added to our online projects. Together with the fact that the Yizkor books contain a  wealth of information of the lifestyles and history of the lost communities, quite a few contain lists of people together with details of their close family and facts like date of birth, death, profession and so on which provide an invaluable tool for researchers. The work preparing these lists demands  attention to detail, background knowledge and lastly - a great deal of time. I would like to thank the people currently working on these lists - Beryl Baleson, Shalom Bronstein, Madeleine Isenberg & Judy Petersen for their dedication and incredible amounts of time that they put in to making these lists available to all. Of course, a large number of volunteers have been involved in preparing these lists over the years and they are credited listed at:
http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/ - many thanks to all!

As I assume my next report will come out somewhere between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, I would like to wish you all and your families an early, but heartfelt, sweet and otherwise wonderful Shana Tova.
