The Department of Commerce, NTIS ( National Technical
Information Service), has announced the limited access for the Death Master
File (DMF). The commercial version of the Death Master File is known as the
Social Security Death Index (SSDI).
Effective close of business on September 302014, the NTIS
Temporarily removed from its website the
following forms pertaining to certification for the Death Master File:
The Limited Access Death Master File Certification
Application Instructions, Limited Access Death Master File Subscriber
Certification Form, Limited Access Death Master File Subscriber Agreement, and
Limited Access Death Master File Licensee Agreement for Use and Resale.
The temporary removal was due to the Emergency PRA
(Paperwork Reduction Act) effective September 30, 2014 until the Office of
Management and Budget (OMB) clearance for DMF Certification form under the
regular PRA process. OMB is restrained from approval until process completion.
That process includes a 60-day comment period announced in the Federal Register
on August 22, 2014, which will be complete on October 21, 2014. The notice can
be viewed at:
Submit written comments to Jennifer Jessup at JJessup@doc.gov The rest of the process will take an
additional 45 days. Persons certified
prior to September 30, 2014 may continue to have access to the Limited Death
Master File during the interim period. When
there is more information and the process described is over NTIS will post
information on their website: http://www.ntis.gov/products/ssa-dmf.aspx
